A decent number of members took advantage of a track training day at Calshot velodrome on Saturday, 18 January. The four hour session was coached by Rob Kennison who is one of the few people qualified to coach the track. He was happy to give up his chance to ride to allow others the opportunity to experience the thrill of the velodrome.
Taking part was a mixture of complete novices, intermediates and hardened pro’s like young gun Tom Kennison, who was making everyone in his group work hard! It was also encouraging to see four lady members taking the plunge and riding, which can be quite a daunting experience. Hopefully this is a positive sign of things to come for the club in the future.
Rodney Kennison proved once again that age is but a number and even at the age of 76 he rode with flair in the advanced group and kept the pace up.
The day was structured, once everyone was familiar with the track the group performed a number of exercises from through and off, to gaining a lap and working with a partner to gain a lap. Who knows, with the mix of juniors, ladies and new members riding, we have some future track competitor’s in our midst. The day really reflected the benefits of being part of the club and we hope to do it again soon.
Thank you to Rob for coaching us and Tom, our track secretary, for organising it. Look out for more dates in the future.
